Batu Kawan Berhad owns 98% of shares in Malay-Sino Chemical Industries Sendirian Berhad ("Malay-Sino"). Incorporated in 1973, Malay-Sino is Malaysia's largest producer of chlor-alkali products. It has two manufacturing facilities, one located in Lahat, Perak and the other in Kemaman, Terengganu. Malay-Sino's annual capacity is 117,000 metric tonnes of caustic soda 100%. |

Sodium hydroxide (Caustic soda) |
Soap and detergent manufacturing, neutralisation of acids, waste water and cellulose
treatment, fabric mercerising, pulp and paper manufacturing. |

Hydrochloric acid |
Pickling and cleaning of metal, hydrolysis of starch and proteins in the food industry,
catalyst and solvent in organic synthesis. |

Sodium hypochlorite |
Production of bleaches and liquid disinfectants, employed for the pulp and paper, textile,
rubber and water treatment industries. |
Methyl chloride |
Major raw material in the production of herbicides. In the production silicon intermediates
and butyl rubber. |
Chlorine |
One of the primary chemicals utilised in the water treatment industry, in the production of
rubber gloves and sewage treatment. |
Ferric chloride |
As flocculating agent in both waste water and potable water treatment, etching agent for
PCB and others, as a treatment chemicals. |
